I welcome you all on behalf of staff and students of NTA Television College, to the matriculation ceremony of 2016/2017 Degree students of our great Institute.
As you are aware, NTA Television College, Jos was established over 30 years ago as a training centre for in-house staff of Nigerian Television Authority. This College has trained and graduated most of the best hands and brains we have in the broadcast media industry in Nigeria today.
In furtherance of the lofty vision of the founding fathers of the College, subsequent generations of NTA Leaders upgraded the College to a Degree awarding Institution.
Permit me to use this occasion to salute the courage of the founding fathers of this College for initiating and sustaining this lofty legacy. NTA College, Jos also appreciates the Vice-Chancellor of A.B.U Zaria and his Management Team who accepted our affiliation request and have been very supportive from that moment to date.
NTA College, Jos because of that affiliation with A.B.U. Zaria awards professional degrees in Television Journalism and Television Production. The College also runs Professional Diploma Programmes in Television Engineering, Television Production in addition to Short Proficiency courses in critical areas of broadcast Media Management.
The Director General of NTA and Visitor of the College and other stakeholders, we are proud to place on records that feedback from the Industry in Nigeria and beyond indicates that our graduates are not just doing well in their various fields of endeavour but are indeed excelling.
We therefore assure our students who are being matriculated today and their parents that they made a good decision by opting for Television College in preference to others.
Permit us to advice especially our new students that this period marks the beginning of a long, and fulfilling but challenging journey in their career development.
You must therefore take full advantage of the practical and industry based skills that your highly experienced and skilled lecturers will be imparting to you from now henceforth.
You must also resist the temptation to abuse your new found freedom associated with campus life. I enjoin you all to remain focused and to grab as much knowledge and skills as possible to enable you to excel in the highly competitive and challenging broadcast media world. Always remember that the emerging media landscape has no space for indolence, lazy, uncreative, disingenuous journalists. You must therefore build the right character and skills to excel in the career you have chosen.
As a College, I assure students, parents and other stakeholders that the present Management of this College under the able leadership of the Visitor, the Director General of NTA, Mallam Yakubu Ibn Mohammed is working tirelessly to position the Institution as a world-class centre of Excellence.
Our students therefore including those of you being matriculated today, have no excuse to be anything other than stars in your chosen careers.
I congratulate you all, my dear students and wish you well.
God bless you all.
Dr. Barnabas Gbam
Ag. Rector.
